So you're stuck in a rut and you need some motivation? I've got you covered! Working out can be fun (no, really, it can be!) and getting excited about doing it is just a matter of tapping into what you love. Let me show you what I mean...
Feed Into Your Addiction...
For trashy TV, that is! What time is Jersey Shore on? What about The Real Housewives? Turn your affinity for on-screen smack-downs and hot-tub loving into a trimmer waistline! Hulu it on your iPhone (HuluPlus app works best with the iPhone 4), buy it on iTunes and play it on your iPod or try to make it to the gym when it's on TV.
If you're watching this kind of programming while you're working out, no one can judge you.
Create A Goal System
Keep track of how often you go to the gym. Every 20 times, treat yourself to something! Whether it's a new sweater, video game (did anyone say Just Dance for Wii?!) or that piano key necktie you've always wanted (whatever floats your boat, k?). Working towards general fitness or dropping 5 pounds might not be most helpful goal for you. Find out what is and reach for it.
It's All About the Fashion!
Looking cute while you work out may seem like a ridiculous concept but, trust me, it will make you more motivated! If you have new yoga pants from Lululemon, you better believe you'll be downward dogging your way to a better butt because, if you're like me, you want to wear your new clothes as much as possible! Or, if you are the outdoor type, make sure you have sporty shoes. It's amazing what fashion can do for your workout. Adios nasty sweats, hello cuteness!
Try Something New
Do you hear people raving about Zumba? Try it! Always wanted to run in a race? Sign-up for one! Working out doesn't have to mean doing the same things you've always done. Sometimes trying something brand new can jump start your desire to exercise. Who says getting fit has to be boring and routine?
Stop Driving So Much!
A few years ago I was in a car accident and my car was in the shop FOREVER! Renting a car wasn't an option for me financially but buying a used bike off Craigslist was! This option may not work for you given weather, your commute, etc. but I challenge you to rethink your car reliance. Are you driving places you could walk or bike to? If so, ditch the car, get on a bike (or on foot) and go old school. Your heart will thank you. Sitting in traffic and dealing with high gas prices is enough to motivate me to get on my ten-speed!
Well, I hope I've helped. The point is: getting moving is SO important but it's not always easy to be enthusiastic about it. Figure out what gets you excited and leverage THAT to get you exercising!
