Cure a Phobia - 3 Things That Stop You Curing A Phobia

Phobic attacks are not nice experiences but even though phobias are fairly easy to cure many phobia sufferers continue to avoid seeking help. Let's look at 3 things that stop you curing your phobia.

1 - Procrastination

Procrastination, putting off until later what you could do now, is such a common condition amongst people that most of us are not even aware it may have become a problem. It is natural to want to avoid activities that we don't want to do or situations that we think might not be pleasant. Quite often it is the little jobs that we procrastinate over the most; the ones that when we do eventually do them seem to be so easy (rather than the monster task we convinced ourselves it would be) that we wonder why we hadn't done them sooner. The same is true of curing a phobia. Too many phobia sufferers are told by others, or convince themselves, that curing a phobia takes ages and is a difficult and unpleasant task. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is now very easy to cure the majority of phobias in a simple and reliable way that putting it off makes absolutely no sense. Don't let your procrastination stop you any longer; make the decision to cure your phobia and take action now.

2 - Fear of the fear

Fear is such an unpleasant experience that most of us quite sensible try to avoid it. Natural fear is with us in one form or another on an almost daily basis, it is essential for survival, but the irrational fear that is the basis of a phobia is not part of this natural fear. Unfortunately, too many people incorrectly believe that to cure a phobia you have to suffer the very fear that creates the phobic reaction. The branch of psychology that uses immersion therapy (making a person face their worst fear) to try to cure phobias has given people the idea that this is how phobias need to be cured. This is not true. You do not have to suffer fear in order to cure your phobia. Don't allow the fear of having to face your phobic fear stop you from seeking a simpler and far more pleasant phobia cure.

3 - The stigma of psychology

Phobias are a condition of the mind, usually the subconscious mind, and in many countries it has become much more acceptable to visit a psychologist or a psychiatrist as a means of finding a cure; or even as a part of everyday health maintenance. In fact if the media is to be believed, in the glittery world of showbiz, many people think a psychologist is a fashion accessory. Unfortunately, in some countries having mental health problems or admitting to emotional issues, such as a phobia, may still carry the social stigma of previous generations. Many people still cannot admit publicly to needing help from a psychologist for fear of being labelled as mentally ill. The same is true of some phobia sufferers. Because a phobia is considered irrational or illogical, non-phobia sufferers often consider it a sign of mental weakness and will ridicule the sufferer which can cause phobia sufferers to avoid seeking the help they so desperately want and need. Fortunately, the most reliable phobia cures don't need the services of a psychologist or a doctor if you have the motivation and self-discipline to undertake a simple routine that will cure the problem for you. Don't allow the fear of social stigma to prevent you from freeing yourself from the horrible experiences that phobic attacks produce. Remember that social stigma is usually the result of ignorance and lack of understanding which won't help you to cure your phobia.
