Teeth Whitening: Add Sparkle To Your Smile

Many people look in the mirror in the morning at their smile, and they do not at all like what they see. They may see crooked teeth wholly or partly of unsightly colors -- yellows, browns, even black. The crookedness of their teeth may be remedied by orthodontics, the dental specialty of tooth straightening. But even if your teeth are straight, they will not look very good if they are not white. A gleaming white smile is a hallmark of a beautiful smile.

While most children have lovely white teeth, as we get older, our teeth can discolor. This is especially due to our habits, specifically tobacco use or other smoking, and what we eat and drink. Smoking and smokeless tobacco has the effect of making teeth an unsightly yellow or brown. Coffee and tea can stain teeth brown. The effect increases the longer our teeth are exposed to staining agents. By the time we reach even our thirties, the effect can be noticeable and disturbing, marring an otherwise gorgeous smile. While regular tooth brushing and cleanings at the dentist's office do help, they are often not enough to return our teeth to the beautiful white color they were when we were kids.

This is where teeth whitening comes in, working to undo the damage that our lifestyles have done to the color of our teeth. teeth whitening can be done either with kits for home use or in the dentist's office. The home kits may be purchased either in a grocery or drug store or from the dentist herself. While the kits from the drug store can be effective, dentists have access to some stronger whitening agents, which are not available elsewhere. Of course, these options tend to be more expensive. One benefit of having the teeth whitening done in your dentist's office is that he or she can better ensure that the teeth whitening is done evenly.

If teeth whitening is not enough, caps are a good option. These are made of a material that is extremely resistant to staining and are made to fit your mouth specifically. But they are expensive and require a good amount of time in the dentist's chair for the patient.

If your teeth are not as gleaming white as they could be, consider teeth whitening. There is a wide range of whitening products at various prices. Consult your dentist on what whitening options may be best for you.
